Closest Airport

Cherry Capital Airport (TVC) in Traverse City

30 min drive

The closest airport to Fountain Point Resort is a 30min drive away: Cherry Capital Airport (TVC) in Traverse City. Rental cars are available at the airport. Ride shares may be limited, especially if flying in late, so we recommend scheduling a ride in advance.

Other airport options are Detroit Metro Airport (DTW) and Gerald R. Ford International Airport (GRR) in Grand Rapids. These are 3-5 hours away by car, but often have more flight options with cheaper prices.

For road trippers, the resort is a 6hr drive from Chicago, 8hr drive from Cincinnati, and 15hr drive from New York City (I've done the latter and wouldn't recommend it).

If you're staying off-site, there is plenty of parking available at Fountain Point. You're also welcome to boat in! There are docks and a sandy beach available for your vessel of choice.

Traverse City

Traverse City is the "big city" of Northern Michigan with a robust downtown area and many options for shopping and restaurants. We love Wilson Antiques and the pastrami sandwich at Frenchies Famous (ask for the wait before you order). If you need suburban comforts or a supermarket with larger selections, this is the place to go.

Outdoor Activities

Northern Michigan has plenty of options for outdoor fun. The water may be a bit cold for swimming in September, but it's clean and clear for those brave enough. Sail, kayak, paddle board, or motor boat to explore Lake Leelanau. You're welcome to bring boats if you're staying at Fountain Point, and there are many boat rentals available in the area.

Bikers can enjoy the Leelanau Trail, a section of the well-maintained Traverse Area Recreation Trail (TART) that runs from Suttons Bay to Traverse City.

There are beautiful hikes that explore lakeshores, sand dunes, rivers, and forests. Sleeping Bear Dunes is a National Lakeshore infamous for its 450' dune climb. Please don't go to the bottom unless you're looking for an intense workout and give yourself a couple hours to get back to the top.

Wineries

There are too many wineries in the Leelanau Peninsula to count. They're all top-rated with a similar growing climate to the Finger Lakes region. Take your pick or check out the Leelanau Peninsula Wine Trail for inspiration.
